TERROIR + LES RAISINS DE LA MORT + ATTACK OF THE KILLER TOMATOES!

On the eve of spring, Ciné Rio invites you to a night of horror of the strangest kind! Kuru and Offscreen accompany us with fringe noise for the French cult classic Les raisins de la mort and monster film parody Attack of the Killer Tomatoes!Beforehand, we will be screening a short film by young talent about bio-dynamic winegrowers. Just to give you a dash of eco-optimism to get you through the night!

20:00 – Terroir

A sommelier student observes the work of winemakers in the vicinity of Lantignié, a charming village in the Beaujolais region, for a year. The seasons change, and with them the colours, sounds, rhythm of nature and human labour.

Stijn Verschelden graduated as a filmmaker from KASK in 2025, while also obtaining his diploma as a sommelier-conseil. The screening will be followed by a sensory follow-up: a small tasting of wines from the estates featured in the film, brought to you by Vers le Vin!

In a French village, pesticides used in a vineyard cause bloody growths to appear on some of the residents. An unsuspecting visitor walks straight into the trap of vicious zombies... 

Cult director Jean Rollin never compromised when it came to his strange and dreamlike “fantastique”. Grapes of Death is low-budget eco-horror with an original aftertaste. In vino veritas.

23:30 – Attack of the Killer Tomatoes! 

Are tomatoes fruit or vegetables? Not that it will resolve the debate, but something makes their juice boil and turns them red with rage as they rise up against humanity. 

Attack of the Killer Tomatoes! is one of the most outrageous parodies of B-movies, conceived by a park ranger(!) and inspired by monster classics such as The Birds and Jaws. With a kamikaze tomato as an added bonus!
