October 13th, 1972: a charter plane carrying 37 people – players, friends and family of a Uruguayan rugby team – is flying over the snowy Andean peaks towards Chile when bad weather strikes and an accident ensues. A handful of passengers survive the crash and wait for rescue. But the icy cold, the inaccessibility of the crash zone and the lack of precise whereabouts result in the cancellation of rescue efforts after only nine days. Left to the own devices, the victims search for solutions to their perilous situation. Once their food provisions run out, they must resort to the unthinkable in order to survive… Frank Marshall adapted this true story into a captivating drama, illustrating in a poignant fashion mankind’s will to survive, with Ethan Hawke playing one of the lead characters.
