Cinema Bis Belge: Rabid Grannies | Offscreen
For our annual focus on Belgian cult and exploitation films we head to West Flanders. “Rabid Grannies” is the work of director Emmanuel Kervyn and producer Johan Vandewoestijne (aka James Desert of “Lucker”), both from Courtrai. Thanks to a production deal that fell through for an action film at the notorious Brussels film distributor VDS Films, they could start on their own project. The result was this funny splatter horror film on cannibalistic grannies that went on to have worldwide fame after being picked up for distribution by Troma Entertainment. The film will be shown in its original version of 1987.
Rabid Grannies
Two dear old aunties invite the family to a very special birthday party at a castle. When the two grannies receive a present from their devil worshipping nephew, they turn into cannibalistic monsters and go after their dinner guests.
