This offbeat comedy builds on the tradition of high school and teen movies such as “Ferry Bueller’s Day Off”, “Fast Times At Ridgemont High” or “American Pie”. Only this time, the story is told from the perspective of the geeks, losers, outsiders, and nerds. And the über-nerd of all is the titular character: a lanky teenager with frizzy hair who lives with his bizarre, composite family in Preston, a godforsaken town in Idaho, US. As he considers himself too cool for school, he strolls through the corridors of his high school dressed in cute moon boots and T-shirts with wild animal prints. When his pal, the shy Mexican immigrant Pedro, becomes the most unlikely candidate in the battle for class representation, Napoleon gives his all to help him win. Hilarious and original, “Napoleon Dynamite” is an ode to unbridled eccentricity in a sea of absurdity and mediocrity.
