THE EYE AND I - A VISUAL ODYSSEY IN VR | Offscreen
The Eye and I - A Visual Odyssey in VR is an interactive visual and musical journey in Virtual Reality with "Six degrees of freedom" (referring to the mechanical movements, rotation and orientation of a rigid body in three-dimensional space) by which viewers are able to immerse themselves in 12 large-scale virtual worlds, each dealing with a key moment in history relating to humanity's ambivalent relationship to surveillance and control. Viewers enter each world at their own pace until they are finally returned to their starting point: a panoptic prison cell where they are under constant observation.
The career of Jean-Michel Jarre, visionary creator and electronic music pioneer, has been distinguished by his avant-garde approach to art and a keen interest in new technologies, his creativity being closely linked to an exploration of the latest technological trends, such as AI and the metaverse.
Hsin-Chien Huang is a "new media" designer with a background in art, design, engineering and digital entertainment. He explores cutting-edge technologies in art, literature, design and performance, often involving large-scale interactions, performances, algorithmic computations and video installations.
The Eye & I - A Visual Odyssey in VR is an EDDA, In Art Gallery and France Télévisions co-production with the participation of Kaohsiung VR Film Lab, TAICCA and the Centre National du Cinéma et de l'image animée (CNC), executive-produced by Digital Rise in association with the Virtual and Physical Media Integration Association of Taiwan (VPAT).
